In ancient times there was a rich man, who had all kinds
of wealth and fame, but the misfortune was that the man had no children. This
saddened him always, but both he and his wife were devotees of Shiva. Both
started fasting on Monday in worship of Lord Shiva.
Seeing their true devotion, Mother Parvati urged Lord
Shiva to fill the empty lap of both the couple. As a result, with the blessings
of Shiva, a son was born in his house, but with the birth of the child, there
was a voice in the sky, this child will be of short life. This child will die
at the age of 12 years. With this prediction, that person was not very happy to
have a son. He named his child Amar.
As Amar grew up a bit, the rich man thought it
appropriate to send him to Kashi for education. He decided to send his
brother-in-law to Kashi with Amar. Amar went towards Kashi with his maternal
uncle. Wherever he rested on the way, he gave charity to the Brahmins. While
walking, they reached a city. Where the marriage ceremony of a princess was
taking place.
The bridegroom of that princess was blind with one eye,
the groom's family kept this fact hidden from the royal family. He was afraid
that if the king came to know about this, then this marriage would not happen.
That's why the family members of the groom requested Amar to become the groom
of the liar and he could not refuse their request.
In this way Amar got married to that princess, but he did
not want to keep that princess in deception. That's why he wrote the whole
truth of this incident in the princess's chunri. When the princess read Amar's
message, she accepted Amar as her husband and asked him to wait till she returned
from Kashi. Amar and his maternal uncle went from there towards Kashi.
The wheel of time kept moving forward. On the other hand,
Amar was always engaged in religious activities. When Amar turned exactly 12
years old, he was offering bael leaves to Bhole Baba in the Shiva temple. At
the same time Yamraj came there to take his life, but before that Lord Shiva,
being pleased with Amar's devotion, had given him the boon of longevity. As a
result Yamraj had to return empty handed. Later Amar returned home with his
wife (princess) after getting education from Kashi.

Importance
of Belpatra and Shamipatra
Devotees offer Belpatra and Shamipatra to
please Lord Shiva. According to a legend in this regard, when 89 thousand
rishis asked the Supreme Father Brahma the method of pleasing Mahadev – then
Brahmadev told that Mahadev is as pleased by offering hundred lotuses as he is
by offering one Neelkamal. Similarly, one belpatra is equal to one thousand
Neelkamal and one Samipatra is equal to the fruit of offering one thousand
belpatra.
Belpatra is an easy medium to please Mahadev.
Importance of Belpatra According to a legend, a Bhil dacoit used to rob people
to feed the family. One day in the month of Shravan, a dacoit went to the
forest with the intention of robbing passers-by. Even after a whole day and
night, the dacoit got very upset because no victim was found.
During this time the tree on which the dacoit was hiding was a bael tree
and the troubled dacoit was plucking leaves from the tree and throwing them
down. Suddenly Mahadev appeared in front of the dacoit and asked to ask for a
boon. On knowing the sudden grace of Shiva, the dacoit came to know that
Shivling was established under where he was throwing the beltpatra. Since then
Belpatra has importance.
